| March Madness! :) |
Music in Our Schools Month
Sing you school song! Sing a patriotic song! Sing a silly, goofy song! Have students make up some songs of their own! Create graphs to show how many kids play an instrument and what kind. Students can make homemade instruments and play along as everyone sings some familiar tunes. |
March 2, in a nationwide celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday
Read Across America
Count how many books Dr. Seuss wrote and had published in his lifetime. Ask kids to create some new book covers for some of his well- known stories. |
March 14
Potato Chip Day
Eat tons of potato chips today. Then, ask kids to write a story called "The Runaway Potato Chip." See what plots, characters and settings they can come up with for that! |
March 17
St. Patrick’s Day
Wear green and sing some green songs! (Songs about frogs are good ones to start with!) Or wear something yellow and something blue because together those colors make green! Have children write a play about how to catch a leprechaun then perform it for others. |
March 18 - March 22
Virginia Festival of the Book
Ask students to research some of the children’s authors who are appearing at the Virginia Festival of the Book this year. www.vabook.org |
March 26
Make Up Your Own Holiday Day
Give you students a chance to come up with their own holiday! Ask kids to work in groups or with partners to brainstorm fun ideas for a cool and crazy new holiday. Have them think of songs, games, foods, and wacky traditions to help celebrate the special day! |
